RSV again.

I have so many topics I want to update on but right now there is something else weighing on us.  Reid has RSV again.

He started getting cranky during the night a couple of nights ago but played well and seemed fine yesterday.  Last night he was super fussy until about 3:00 am.  He’s had a light rash on his body for a couple of days and at first I thought he was getting it from army crawling on our sisal rugs.  However, last night he was so cranky I figured that he probably had strep and that the rash was connected to that.  I went in today to get things checked out and they tested for several things.

RSV positive!

He did start wheezing a little this morning and we did two breathing treatments at the doc’s office.  Other than that it’s more cold symptoms with runny nose, coughing, and irritability.  He’s still smiling and playing some but I can tell he doesn’t feel well.  Now, RSV/pneumonia combo is what made him TERRIBLY sick in November.  We had to be transported by ambulance to the picu in Macon, GA in the middle of the night after he was admitted to our local hospital for a couple of days.  He was really, REALLY sick.  We are super nervous about the RSV this time.  I’m hoping that we can get these steroids in him with a combination of breathing treatments, fluids, and plenty of rest AND that will get us to a quick recovery.  We love our pediatrician.  He really knows Reid and even though I could see the concern on his face today, he does think that he looks much better than the first episode of RSV and his other three pneumonia episodes.  Let’s hope it stays that way.  The plan is to watch him closely at home and call Dr. G at 4:00 today for an update.  We’ll decide then if he needs to be admitted.  Reid has been in the hospital too many times already in his young life and so he can get worked up just being there.  If you wear scrubs, please don’t take it personally. Smile We would appreciate any thoughts and prayers for our baby boy right now.
